A discovery center housed in a magnificent 17th-century building in the heart of the medieval town of Joyeuse. Through an exhibition of a remarkable collection of antique objects, Castanea invites visitors to understand how the chestnut tree and its fruit have endured through the centuries and how, even today, they remain a part of daily life for the people of the Ardèche. The profession of chestnut grower today is also highlighted. How do you maintain a chestnut grove? What are the different techniques for harvesting and processing chestnuts? Castanea showcases the expertise of our chestnut growers and processors, helping visitors better appreciate this fruit, which is now part of our culinary heritage and a source of pride. Bonus for families: - A fun interactive tour with booklets and a scavenger hunt for children and teens. - Board games, card games, and more for the whole family to enjoy. - Sensory tour (additional fee)
